Feather Earrings DIY

So I've been dying for a pair of peacock feather earrings.  I bought a pair at Francesca's, but while walking through Hobby Lobby an hour or so later I realized I could make them myself!  The store bought earrings went back to their shelves and $10 went back to my wallet.   Success.      

Prepare yourselves.  This is pretty much the easiest DIY ever. 

Total Cost:  <$5 

Total Time: 5 minutes 

Materials needed: 

1 package of desired size peacock feathers- For this tutorial you will need to get feathers that are already bound and have a little plastic loop to string them.  I bought Fancy Feathers (pictured below) at Hobby Lobby.    

1 package wire earrings (the kind that don't have anything dangling off of them)

1 pair scissors     

(1 pair wire pliers- I didn't use these but some people might need to)

Step 1:  Hold the feathers up to your ear and decide how big you want them to be.  The feathers I purchased had a super long black feather attached to the back that I did not like. After you decide how big you want them, trim the sides and bottom to desired size.  I also rounded the edges to give mine more of a typical "feather" shape.  After you cut the first feather, hold it in front of the second one as you cut it so that they are the same size and shape

Step 2: Using wire pliers (or your fingers if you're good at this type of thing) pinch open the bottom of the wire earring and thread it through the plastic loop on one of the feathers.  

Step 3: Using pliers or your fingers, tightly clamp the wire earring so that it won't come out.

^That's chocolate under my fingernails, not dirt.  Brownies for lunch=win

All done! Enjoy your new (cheap!) earrings!

Make another pair of earrings (duh)

Make a keychain

Glue the feathers and some beads to a black headband

Glue the feathers to a picture frame

Thread the feathers through a chain and wear it like a necklace!

I like this outfit, and I'm not totally sure why. I think it's most likely because of the fact that while it was put together, not one person gave me the "why are you wearing that" look. Yeah, I know fashion is supposed to be about expressing your personal style and while I agree with that completely... I admit that sometimes I get a little self conscious about my outfits when everyone else is wearing sweats and I'm in something completely different and getting 'that' look for it. I still wear what I like, it just takes some of the fun out of it. And with that in mind, although I love my little school, I cannot wait to get out into bigger cities for day to day life!

I found these pictures on my computer from early fall. They're not the best, which is probably why I didn't post them, but I still really liked the outfit. When I first pulled them up though, I realized that I had worn this top, short, and pair of shoes in several of my recent posts. I guess it just goes to show the many ways you can remix a couple of basics!

Finals Week: Effortless Ideas for Looking Good

Taking finals is many students' worst nightmare, and who can blame them? After working hard for all semester, we get to look forward to a week (or more) in which we have crucial exams in every one of our classes. Despite good preparation, it's almost impossible to prevent extreme lack of sleep. Even though most students rely on casual staples like jeans and t-shirts to get through the last week, it's important to give a good final impression to your professors and classmates.

Although many schools have already finished the dreaded finals week, these outfits are a perfect fit for anytime you need to look cute in a hurry.

Outfit One

The most important thing to consider during a stressful time like finals week is comfort. This outfit consists of comfy classics almost every girl has in her closet: trusty jeans, a loose and flowy T-shirt, and a comfy cardigan. All that's needed to pull this outfit together is a necklace and cute sandals. Add a fun headscarf to help cover greasy roots, and you're set to go!

Outfit Two

This outfit is most similar to what I would wear during a time like finals week. As an easy way to look more put together, I usually don't wear a sash that was made to go with the dress, or skirt, or whatever. Instead I like to pair these items with a contrasting belt and some simple accessories. This outfit was based around the scarf, which ties the red, brown, and blue together. Add a watch to keep yourself on track and you have a cute (and easy) outfit.

Simple Again? Yes, Please.

Why
I know this look more than a little resembles what I wore yesterday, but again- I was a bad packer for this trip : ( I made sure to wear flats so that I could easily slip them off at the airport, and I chose the floral headband to amp up the in girly-ness in the top- but honestly that's all the thought that went into today's outfit.

I'd love to say I'm super excited to get back to school, because I ALWAYS am... but honestly, I'm dreading going back for this last month. I'd so much rather just stay in TN and start on my internship now (I'll post details as it gets closer!) So I blame my lack of creativity on today's (slightly) sad mood. Better looks to come, I promise!
