What I've been up to...

I thought Spring Break would be filled with cute outfits, cute food, tons of pictures, and tons of productivity.  Well, at least I got one decent outfit out of the mix...

Recently I've been living in dark skinnies, some sort of plain (preferably white, cream, or striped) top, and a jumble of bracelets and watches.  Oh, and sandals.  Because summer decided to show up early this year.  

Again, the absence.  Somehow blogging and life just haven't been blending well lately. However, that's for some really good (and a few really bad) reasons.  

1. Good grades in classes- heck yes!  This is thanks to many late nights, and a few wonderful and intelligent friends.  I knew there was a reason I was doing that stuff...

2. Summer Internships!  I don't want to jinx this one before it even works out,  but I've been in contact with three awesome companies about doing some marketing work this summer.  I don't know what will end up happening, or even if I'll get an offer from any of the three... But one company is located at a beach, one is a global firm with some killer networking opportunities... and one company is flying me to New York City to interview in person.  Excited? Beyond words.   

3. I'm really involved in our school's chapter of Women in Business, one of the most active clubs here at SVC, and I recently got the position of President for this upcoming year!  I can't wait to work with our executive board- one of our first events is to plan and pull off the TOMS Day Without Shoes!

A week later, and I'm just now getting around to posting an outfit blog about last Friday...

Anyways, we've been getting some pretty cold weather here in Pittsburgh and it's been absolutely necessary to layer up!  Fridays are my "easy/hard" days.  I open up a coffee shop from 7:30-9, then have class (one of my favorites) from 9:30-10:20, and then I work in our school's admissions office from 10:30-4:30.  Because I'm usually running around all day, I generally stick to a casual/jeans ensemble (as I'm typing this I'm in a chiffon skirt- naturally.)

This week

This week I have been working my little tail off at Tennessee 4-H Roundup.  It's truly a wonderful event, but I've been running from one thing to the next (in many different types of heels!) ever since Saturday.  Unfortunately, blogging has taken a back seat, and I was expecting to log back in and see nothing new... but new comments and new followers?!  Thank you all so much for your sweet words, they mean so much to me!!

Competitors!  I met Nicole (in the yellow) during a service learning trip, and she is one of the cutest, sweetest girls ever! Her older sister Megan is in the blue, and doesn't she have the best hair?!

I am so lucky to have the opportunity to work with such a great group of kids- and to be supported and mentored by some truly awesome co-workers!  

I always thought I wanted to work in fashion marketing- but this summer is really making me wonder if I would rather work in non-profit, specifically with 4-H!  Being the clothes/makeup/marketing/events lover that I am, I never thought this would be the right fit for me, but who knows!

This post is a few days backlogged, so even though I'm writing about my internship today, I promise this is not what I actually wore to work!  

So just a recap, I work the first part of the week at the summer job/internship I had last year, and Thursday and Friday I work at my new job- as a marketing intern with Simon malls!  Back in February I made the decision that I really wanted to work in retail marketing this summer- even if it meant taking a low or no paying internship.  My career coordinator at school made a few phone calls and sent my resume off, and suddenly I had an offer from the two Simon malls in my hometown :)  

I never actually interviewed or met with the staff beforehand, so I was a little bit nervous for my first day.  Luckily, the whole staff is SO nice.  I get to work with both the Assistant Director and Director of Marketing.  Since they are Area positions, they work at both of the Knoxville Simon Malls.  I was kind of expecting to get assigned the least exciting jobs and tasks- but I was so far from wrong!  My first day they set me up with the entire social media suite- so if you follow Knoxville Center or West Town Mall on facebook or twitter, that's me!  I also get to help out with all of their mall events- including a back to school fashion show and Fashion Night Out!

Summer Days

Today I was all geared up and ready to get some good outfit pictures, especially since it's been a little while... And it rained. All day. So instead of getting some poor quality shots in the hallways of my dorm, here are some pictures I found of an event this summer that I just forgot to post about.

These pictures are from mid-July when I was asked to be the keynote speaker at an event during a Jr. High 4-H conference. The topic of my talk was about how the 4-H program had impacted my life and why I felt like it was important for youth to be involved in the program. The banquet and talk went really well and the kids all seemed to like it- they liked my dress too, they told me! Sometimes I see kids today that are so disrespectful and just plain mean, and to see kids like this that were so driven and nice and happy... it made me happy. haha.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed my summer post now that it's November and freezing. Tomorrow I promise to have a cold weather outfit post, and Sunday I'll start my 30 for 30!

This Morning

So yesterday I found the cutest bog ever- Sidewalk Ready. Seriously, I would wear every single outfit she styled, and it gave me some major inspiration. I decided that today I would get up early, do my hair, and then get together a really good outfit. Well, that's what I planned on....

What actually happened was something like this:

8:00 am- Alarm goes off; I turn it off... and go back to sleep (the fatal error)

9:38 am- Receive a sweet goodmorning text that wakes me up

9:39 am- While replying to the text, I realize what time it is, and that I have SIX minutes to be at work. Being late to work doesn't just mean I get written up though- it means the girl before me would have to miss class in order to keep the coffee shop open until I get there. I know from experience...

9:40 am- Grab my favorite jeans and literally the first top I see as I open my drawer. Stuff some makeup into my pockets, and get my plain black jacket as I run out the door.

9:44 am- Get lost in the parking lot-in the pouring rain- while trying to find my car... No, I'm not joking

9:47 am- Arrive at work.

Personally, I consider that a pretty big accomplishment. haha :) And I think I'll even post some pictures in a few hours to prove it.

Today was my second day on the job at the State 4-H office. I like it, a lot. This morning my task was to organize service project locations for the Junior High Academic Conference coming up in June. During my break my dad took me to lunch at a deli he used to own on campus, Good Times Deli. If you're ever in Knoxville and want a good sandwich, go there.

Why

For anyone who isn't familiar with the 4-H organization, or if you didn't hear enough yesterday, lol, the 4-H colors are kelly green and white. Even though this skirt has more than just kelly green, I couldn't help but think of 4-H when I first bought it last summer. Since it was pretty warm today I added a simple fitted top and a belt and earrings to pull it together. For my hair I just popped in some sponge rollers to give it a little wave, then braided the side back to keep my hair out of my face.

Where

Today I started work at my summer internship! I'll be working at the state 4-H office in Knoxville doing marketing and event planning for the busy summer months. For those of you who aren't familiar with 4-H, it is a youth development (4-12 grade) organization aimed at developing youth in any of the 27 project areas of their choosing. When I was in 4-H I did public speaking, leadership, citizenship, and clothing (big surprise there, haha). 4-H is an incredible organization, and I truly believe it was instrumental in making me the person I am today. Since 4-H is supported by federal grants, it is available in every state- so if you know any younger kids, get them involved!

Why

Dress at work is casual, but I like to look a little nicer. Black bermuda shorts with a cardigan (office is cold!) and pink flats were a perfect easy look for the day!
