Friday classes and working in the admissions office, giving tours and the like

It's been crazy cold lately, so as much as I love wearing skirts and dresses with tights, trekking across campus in single digit weather without my trusty jeans and boots is just a little too much for me. On a brighter note, my grandparents got me this coat for christmas last year, and I think they did a pretty good job! Thanks again to them :) What are some of your suggestions for dressing cute when mother nature simply refuses to be friendly?

The Old and the New

Dress: Old Navy
Tights: Target
Boyfriend Blazer: Sears (I was really surprised!)
Pearl Necklaces: gift, J.C. Penney's, Random booth in a Puerto Rican Flee Market
Heeled Oxfords: Target

To see the musical Cats with some friends at the Benedum in downtown Pittsburgh

I wanted to mix the vintage inspired dress and oxfords with something a little more modern, like the trendy boyfriend blazer. I layered a few pearl necklaces and tights (It was SO cold) to complete the look. Overall I'm pretty satisfied, but I think it would have been better if the dress was a tiny bit shorter and/or I had belted the blazer. I think I might try that next time I wear this jacket...

I just love this necklace

One huge difference about living up north (I'm actually from Tennessee) is the crazy weather. It hasn't been too cold of a winter, but today it got down to 12 degrees! For my first post I really wanted to take some cute pictures outside wearing a dress and tights... but due to the slushy snow and frigid temperatures, I'm confined to the dorms for now and I'll have to postpone the pretty backgrounds for a slightly warmer and prettier day.

On to today's outfit- As you are soon to discover, I'm quite the bargain shopper. I love the thrill of finding a good sale or getting an almost steal at a cute little vintage shop. Despite my obsession with shopping though, one of my favorite places to find new pieces is my mom's closet. The necklace below actually belonged to her grandmother, who passed it on to her. I've decided to keep the tradition going :)

I wanted to keep it simple today since I have several classes back to back (and also because of the weather) I was trying to go for a casual slightly vintage and girly look. I have a hard time mixing up it up with the vest though; I usually just wear it with a navy or cream top and jeans. How would you wear it?

My New Blog!

Technology has never really been one of my strong points, and I promise it's not for lack of trying! But I love fashion- styling, sewing, shopping- every aspect of it, and I want to share my passion with more than just the people I come into contact with on a day-to-day basis, hence the creation of The Closet Files.

In my blog I would like to share pictures of my daily outfits, styling ideas, trends I love (any maybe even a few I'm not so fond of), and hopefully a few tutorials, fun articles, and eventually some awesome giveaways!

If you have any blogging tips, I would love to hear them... and please bear with me as I work on improving the technological aspects of the blog.

Welcome to The Closet Files!

P.S. Please tell me what you would like to see here, and if you love what you see, please share the site with friends!
