Shorts in Winter

Shorts: Sanctuary via Belk, $8
Top: Lucky via Belk, $35
Tights: ?
Glasses: 7 for All Mankind
Shoes: Urban Outfitters, way too much $$ for the quality...

Shorts in winter.  Sometimes I love it, then the next day I hate it.  As far as I can tell, the general opinion is one of dislike.  But hey, if I can wear magenta tights, I can wear neutral tights and a pair of cool shorts.  Although the pictures aren't too clear, I ended up really liking this outfit.

Opinions on the shorts and tights trend?

Today I felt kind of vintage girly, like Julie. The other day I felt kind of tough, all black and leather. And then I also felt modern, trendy, girly, and whatever other adjective that you could use to describe style. I've never been a singular style type of person because I've always liked different styles so much that I could never settle on just one. This used to bother me. I think it bothered me because I would always see people who had their own styles- always vintage or modern or bohemian. I felt like because I didn't have my own personal style that I was just a copier, or uncreative, or indecisive. What I've come to realize though is that just because I don't stick to certain things doesn't mean I'm any of those negative adjectives above. I love being able to be completely different from day to day, and THAT, the ever changing but still a little the same, that's my personal style.

Good side Bad Side.

The Good Side
The Bad Side

{Skirt: Abercrombie}{Top (tunic): The Limited}{Tights: ?}{Belt: Charlotte Russe}
{Cardigan: J.Crew}{Oxfords: Urban Outfitters}

Does anyone else ever notice having a good side or bad side? Well I've noticed that about myself ever since the beginning of high school. Whenever I bring it up people just say I'm being paranoid- well here's the proof! There's definitely an undeniable difference. ALSO, why is it that I always have good hair on my bad side??

Black Friday

{Tunic: The Limited}{Blazer:Thrifted}{Leggings: TJ Maxx}{Scarf: Target}
{Oxfords: Urban Outfitters}
Haha, this ^ is my, I'm getting ready to get caught taking pictures of myself face.
Also, something must be wrong with my camera. Today I could only get awkward dark pictures or really bright ones like the one below.

So this is what I wore during my very first Black Friday Shopping experience... well, add a messy bun and that's actually what i wore. But that's a minor detail. Anyways, after Thanksgiving Dinner the boy and I watched movies until it was time to head out for shopping. We planned on going around 3 am so we would be in line for the door buster sales- but when it started raining cats and dogs outside we decided to wait just a bit longer before going. Despite the rain, I did get a few good things :) Did anyone else get anything good on Black Friday?

Oxfords and Hot Carmel Apple Cider

Dress: Ross, $7
Cardigan: Old Navy, $12
Belt: Vintage, My Mom's
Bracelets: Vintage, Rue 21, and My Mom's
Earrings: Claire's, $4
Oxfords: Urban Outfitters, $50

Where
Classes, the Gristmill Coffeehouse, and to run errands around town

Why
Today was one of those days- not the bad kind, the really really super good kind (with an exception or two, but hey, let's focus on the positive.) It started out with waking up to a super sweet text, then later in the day finding out I scored twenty points above the class average on my macroeconomics test, having a pretty easy day at work, having my very first hot carmel apple cider (amazing), and then towards the end of the day, when finally taking blog pictures, realizing how much I really liked my outfit. Funny, I feel like lately I haven't really been myself fashion wise. But today, everything just seemed to fall into place. Ok... so it wasn't an earth shattering good day, but I'll be thankful for what I get :)

Temptation

What
Jeans: American Eagle, gift
Top: American Apparel, gift
Oxfords: Urban Outfitters, $50
Necklace: Buckle, $12

Where
So last weekend was filled with sleeping late, lounging around, recovering from a hard week class wise, and preparing for more coming exams. Almost all of this took place in my dorm room, in sweatpants and a tshirt. Sunday afternoon I decided to head down to the coffeehouse on campus to get a change of location and help with my focus (Is it just me, or is this gorgeous fall season making it harder for everyone to pay attention?) Anyways, I decided that I was just going act like a student and wear my sweatpant/tshirt/ponytail ensemble with pride. I got halfway down my hall before turning around to change.... So once I got back to my room and my room-mate lovingly rolled her eyes at my inability to wear sweats in public, I put on jeans and my favorite new oxfords. Then, just because it was a little chilly, I added my go-to beige cardigan. And then it turned into, what the heck- why not just add a necklace and brush my hair (haha.) But seriously, lately when I'm feeling lazy I seem to always either twist or braid my bangs back. I feel like it gives someone of a more put-together feel while still looking pretty nice.

Btw... The most amazing secretary at my summer internship gave me tons of her daughter's clothes because she was moving away and didn't want them anymore (yes, I'm completely and totally OK with hand-me-downs. Anytime free clothes in good condition are offered, I'll gladly take them!) In the four GIANT bags was a pretty good selection of tops, pants, dresses, as well as a skirt or two. The Gap, The Limited, American Eagle, Express, and Urban Outfitters were just a few of the brands (This is probably the closest I'll ever get to Christmas in July!) But my absolute favorite piece, hands down, is this graphic tee from American Apparel. It has got to be the softest piece of clothing I've ever put on, and I've been wearing it constantly lately! Does anyone else have any experience with the brand? Is all of their stuff this awesome?? If so, I can feel some online shopping in my very near future...

So that was my Sunday in a nutshell. The only thing even remotely interesting I did was paint the run through sign for my college's football game this coming Saturday.

"Hey Tornadoes (that's the opposing team) the forecast for the game is sunny with a Bearcat (that's us, haha) Win."

Corny? Yes. Oh well :)

OH WAIT.... I totally forgot, I DID get to do something super awesome on Sunday, and it's fashion related! I'll definitely be writing a post about that one super soon

Trendy Tuesday: Sheer Clothing

Sheer Fabrics were all over the runways this year. Many designers showcased clothing that was completely see-through, often showing much more skin than any normal person would care to show in the real world. However, this trend is totally wearable in real life!

Where I Wore it:

Tonight I attended an alumni panel and networking event for communication and marketing students here at school. Since there was going to be distinguished alumni that are working in the field I would one day like to enter, I wanted to look put together while still remaining stylish.

How I Styled it:

I actually bought this cream colored sheer top from Guess several years ago, but I’ve only worn it a few times. I was pretty excited to see sheers on the runway for Spring- I love it when something I’ve been hanging onto comes back in style! Dress for the event was business casual- but since when have I settled for khakis? I tucked the top into a plain black pencil skirt and bloused it a little for a fun play on volume. Although I almost always stick to a very safe outfit combination/color palate for professional events (This is never the time to try out something crazy), I added a pearl and chain necklace and a hot pink handbag to stand-out.

Why it Works:

Despite the fact that sheers on the runway were overbearingly sexy and provocative, they can be toned down with the proper pieces. My top is just barely sheer, that’s why it is completely acceptable when worn with a modest camisole. I kept the rest of the outfit simple and fairly conservative- a plain black pencil skirt, matching cream tights, and oxfords kept the look toned down, but the accessories added some fun.

Other Ways to Wear Sheers:

~A sheer top paired with dark jeans and heels makes for a perfect date look- As long as you don’t go overboard.
~A solid dress with a sheer overlay can give you that sheer look without baring too much. A perfect look for a more formal occasion!
~This trend can even be worked into a really strict professional dress code. My suggestion would be to pair a sheer top with suit separates- the sliver of sheer at the top of your collarbone (Don’t forget the camisole underneath!) shows just enough skin to make this trend work for you!

Thoughts? Ideas? I would love to see how you style your sheer for spring- Leave me a photo comment!
